West Rand Engineering Changes Its Manufacturing Environment With New CMMS

A Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) is a tool no modern manufacturing plant should be without. West Rand Engineering (WRE) enhanced its plant maintenance and safety-related activities by replacing their existing, outdated CMMS. Having a reliable CMMS is imperative to the effective management of any manufacturing plant. A functioning CMMS ensures that maintenance and engineering managers can examine repair history, identify trends and improve the reliability of equipment.

WRE chose Q-CMMS, a CMMS from business solution provider QBCon, to replace an outdated disk operating system (DOS). Their previous system offered WRE limited functionality for managing maintenance information. Q-CMMS is customised to fit WRE’s unique needs. This means that more focus will be placed on product features that are of use to WRE, ensuring that they don't pay for services they don't need.

With Q-CMMS, WRE is sure of a safe working environment. Unlike most standard CMMS packages the custom developed CMMS manage all aspects of the maintenance function. These include scheduling and planning maintenance tasks and issuing job cards. These functions will ensure the WRE's maintenance processes comply with the Health and Safety Standard, ISO9001. With Q-CMMS all defined procedures are adhered to, maintenance managers are kept informed and information is available to monitor trends and detect problem areas.

Q-CCMS will group information by work order, mechanical- and equipment needs and maintenance. With Q-CMMS, WRE will never need to stop production for more than 20% of production time to do maintenance. Keeping downtime down to maintenance to a minimum will ensure greater profitability and more predictable production.

With Q-CMMS, having the correct CMMS functions and data WRE will improve the efficiency in maintaining the plant and ensuring a safe environment for its employees. Management will make better informed decisions on improvements, while reducing the risk of production downtime.
