QBCon Congratulates Prof Tebello Nyokong
QBCon would like to offer our sincere congratulations to Professor Tebello Nyokong from the Rhodes University on winning the Africa-Arab State 2009 L’Oréal-Unesco Award for Women in Science on 10 November 2008.
As the first international awards devoted to women scientists around the world, L’Oréal-Unesco Award for Women in Science recognises work that solves the challenges in modern science. Each year the Awards alternate between Life Sciences and Physical Science. In its 11th year, Professor Tebello became the first South African woman to win a science award for her research in physical sciences. She was awarded for her work on harnessing light for cancer therapy and for environmental clean-up.
Each year one laureate from the five global regions must act as role model for future and current female scientists. Professor Tebbello was the laureate for Africa and the Arab states and QBCon believe her to be an inspiration to all young women.
