Lab-i Reduces Usage Time for Bioindustrial Services
In the typical analytical laboratory there is a large amount of data that needs to be tracked and analysed. Hundreds, if not thousands of samples are processed each week. Tracking and sorting these samples can become a time-consuming process.
Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) have been promising to reduce time and increase laboratory capacity for years. Bioindustrial Services found a LIMS that can reduce time spent on certain tasks from eight hours to 60 minutes.
Bioindustrial Services is a contract laboratory in Kempton Park, Johannesburg. The laboratory performs a variety of tests, including microbiological and chemical tests for a variety of industries ranging from pharmaceutical, veterinary health and cosmetics to the food industry.
The laboratory implemented Lab-i, a LIMS from business solution provider QBCon. QBCon was an obvious choice for Bioindustrial Services, because QBCon could customise Lab-i to meet the specific requirements of the laboratory. The program could handle the challenges of the laboratory’s environment and could be implemented without disrupting important ongoing processes.
Bioindustrial Services, as any other company, is continually searching for ways to reduce the cost of business without compromising quality. Soon after Lab-i was implemented at Bioindustrial Services, the advantages of the system became apparent. Tasks like data entry and calculations that could take up to eight hours to complete in the past can now be done in 60 minutes.
This proves that the right LIMS is an essential tool in improving the laboratory’s capacity by reducing time usage. An effective LIMS makes it possible for researchers at Bioindustrial to devote their efforts to improving productivity and accuracy.
